Medical Laboratory Services was established in the early 1980s as a joint-venture between Mr Paul Sultana and Dr Josie Muscat. At a time when the concept of a private medical diagnostic laboratory was something of a novelty in Malta, these two pioneers came together with the singular desire to create this service. This collaboration also led to the birth of IVF in Malta in the early 1990s, with the laboratory becoming the first to offer this treatment in the country.

The early days were modest - we operated from a tiny space at Saint James Clinic, at the time located in Żabbar, initially focusing on routine tests and relying on a small team of laboratory scientists. This is more than our history. It is our foundation.

Our main goal was to provide quality and efficiency to gradually enhance our profile and expand our services. We collaborated with state of the art partner laboratories overseas to bridge the gaps left by our limitations. Slowly, steadily, we earned the trust of a growing circle of doctors, clinics, and international partners who recognized the value of our work.

We are proud of our roots as from those humble beginnings as a small lab operating from Saint James Żabbar, we have grown into a fully-fledged laboratory at Saint James Capua Sliema with a branch at Saint James Żejtun.
