Allergy and Food Intolerance tests
Reactions to foods or environmental triggers can affect people in different ways. These may include sensitivities to certain foods or food groups, as well as allergic reactions to substances such as pollen, dust mites, moulds, animal dander or other common allergens.
Allergy and food intolerance tests can help provide information about possible triggers, supporting further discussion with a healthcare professional and helping guide appropriate next steps.

Comprehensive Allergy Profile
Allergy testing usually focuses on IgE antibodies, which are linked to immediate-type allergic reactions. These reactions may cause symptoms such as itching, swelling, rashes, sneezing, wheezing, breathing difficulties, vomiting or diarrhoea after exposure to a specific food or environmental trigger.
The ALEX® allergy test screens for up to 300 allergens and also includes total IgE. It covers a wide range of allergen groups, including pollens, house dust and storage mites, plant-based and animal-derived foods, pets and farm animals, insect venoms, moulds and yeasts, and latex.
Sample type: Blood (no fasting required)
Food Intolerance
Food-specific IgG testing is different from IgE allergy testing. IgG results may show immune exposure to certain foods, but they do not confirm a true food allergy.
This type of testing may be considered when exploring possible food-related symptoms such as bloating, abdominal discomfort, changes in bowel habits, or other digestive complaints. Results should be interpreted with caution and discussed with a healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes.
Sample type: Blood (no fasting required)
Special requirements: Balanced diet
Coeliac Disease Testing
Coeliac disease testing helps assess whether the immune system is reacting to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. The test measures specific antibodies in the blood and can support the diagnosis of coeliac disease.
Special requirements: Minimum age for this test 3 years.
For accurate results, testing is usually performed while gluten is still included in the diet, unless advised otherwise by a healthcare professional.
Lactose Intolerance Testing
Lactose intolerance testing assesses how the body responds to lactose, a sugar found in milk and dairy products. The test involves taking a baseline sample, followed by further samples at set intervals after drinking a lactose solution. Results can help support the investigation of symptoms such as bloating, abdominal discomfort, gas or diarrhoea after consuming dairy products.
Special requirements: Fasting required.
Patients are usually required to remain in the laboratory for the duration of the test, commonly around 2 to 3 hours, depending on the test results.
